In an industry that has largely moved production offshore, Island Packet Yachts has spent 45 years building every boat in Largo, Florida. That decision — made by founder Bob Johnson in 1979 and maintained through every economic cycle since — defines the company as much as any design choice."We build in America because we believe it matters," Johnson said at the company's anniversary celebration. "It matters to the quality of the boat. It matters to the people who build them. And it matters to the sailors who trust their lives to them offshore."The company has produced over 2,800 boats across 14 models since its founding. The current lineup includes the 350, 380, and 440 — all built to the same structural standards that have defined the brand since the beginning.The anniversary was marked with a gathering of IP owners at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, where more than 60 boats — some dating to the early 1980s — rafted together for a weekend of sailing and celebration.
